Although he is a great fan of Eddie Jefferson, Leon Thomas, Bobby McFerrin and many other great bop vocalists, there is another side to Freddie's singing more akin to the music of Johnny Hartman, Nat King Cole and Billy Eckstine. On this, his much anticipated and long overdue first album, Freddie has chosen some of his favourite ballads and his renditions of them show a lyrical sophistication which will surprise no one who has enjoyed Freddie's live gigs. Listening to the album, we hear a man who has found his own voice and is continually developing new and more subtle areas of expression within it. Relax and experience some of Freddie's richest and deepest tones - as he really is diggin' deep.

I like music with a mad edge to it and anybody who has heard Freddie sing will know he fits the bill! But this album shows a different side of Freddie, being a set of ballads, beautifully played and sung, the crowning glory for me is the final, gorgeous duet of 'over the rainbow' with Freddie joined by his daughter Niki, a fitting end to a lovely album.
